Huge, homely mastiff named Martha wins world's ugliest dog

About 13 dogs turned up for a freakish competition that lines up ugliest dogs for the title of World's Ugliest Dog won by the three-and-a-half-year-old Neapolitan mastiff.

The 57 kilogram mutt won over the judges with her droopy face. It took several surgeries before she was able to see again, Zindler said.

Martha, with her droopy red eyes, uncontrollable drool and baggy skin, is, as one person described her, "so ugly she's attractive".

She won out of 13 dogs and her own couldn't be more proud of her.

No doubt about it. Martha is ugly.

The panel based their decisions on first impressions, unusual attributes, personality and audience reaction, the agency added.

While most years the champion of the Sonoma-Marin Fair's signature event in California is usually a puppety Chinese crested or cross-eyed Chihuahua (or some unholy mixture in between), 2017 is the year of the big, ugly dog.

Zindler and Martha walked away with $1,500, a flashy trophy, a trip to NY for media appearances and our undying love.

'Drooling, snoring, gassy' mastiff named World's Ugliest Dog
The Sonoma-Marin Fair held it's now nationally famous, 29th Annual Ugliest Dog Contest on Friday and a victor has been crowned. Monkey, a 6-year-old Brussels Griffon, and Icky, an 8-year-old unknown breed, were both saved from the homes of hoarders.

"The annual Contest celebrates those dogs that may not earn a Best of Show, but are lovable and adoptable anyway".

In a competition annually dominated by the old, the tiny, and the hairless, the 3-year-old, 125-pound Neapolitan Mastiff used her lollygagging youth to win the 29th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest.

Runners up were Brussells squiffy-faced griffon pug Moe, who came in second place, and Chase, a half-bald Chinese crested-Harke mix who came third.

Along with the prestigious title, Martha won $1,500 dollars (£1,170) and a trip to NY.

Martha won the title of ugliest dog in a competition that featured 14 pooches.

Other contestants included an eight-year-old dog with the apt name of "Icky", of unknown breed, and a Brussels Griffon, Monkey, who is 6 years old.
