A witness, Loren Lent, who was waiting to snap a photo of a family member as they passed overhead on the same ride, captured the ordeal on video and later uploaded the footage to Facebook. The girl didn't know how she had fallen out of the ride.

"As my dad went down I held her up and passed her along", Winchell said.

Lent told the AP that his wife and 10-year-old daughter had been on the ride and watched the incident from above the girl. "She was crying for about a half-hour after". "It wouldn't surprise me at all if they put additional safety restrictions on this ride, maybe safety belts".

Rebecca Wood, a spokesperson with Six Flags said the ride had been cleared to resume operation by the New York State Department of Labor.

The park said in a statement that the safety of guests is a top priority.
